Check if you qualify for Express Entry

The Express Entry System is structured to employ candidates specializing in important occupations. The recent draw has placed importance on selecting skilled applicants with exposure to agri-food and agricultural fields. The goal is to fill the surge in demand for agri-food skilled individuals so that they can help meet the challenges of

The country’s farming and food processing operations.

Filling Labor Shortage Gaps and Boosting The Agri-Food Sector

Introduced on May 31, 2023, the category-based selection system will address labor shortages and aim to improve Canada’s economic objectives. It specifically targets candidates with work experience in Agriculture and Agri-food Occupations.

Aiming To Achieve Agricultural Growth With The Right Talent

The goal is to encourage candidates with expertise in the agricultural sector, such as agricultural service contractors, farm supervisors, and retail and wholesale butchers, to find solutions to the increasing demand for skilled professionals nationwide.

These selection rounds based on categories were conducted alongside general and program-specific invitation rounds throughout 2023. Canada’s dedication to attracting the best global talent and bolstering the economy by fulfilling the demand for workers in agriculture and agri-food industries is seen in these actions.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Occupations in 2024 – The First Draw

Today’s draw marks the first of the year for Agriculture and Agri-Food Occupations.

Draw #285 extended 150 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates meeting the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) threshold of 437. This meant that candidates selected in this draw were drawn from specific occupations within the industry represented in the Express Entry pool.

Compared to the two draws held in 2023, this draw featured a higher qualifying score, causing a reduction in the number of invitations issued to candidates holding occupations in the agriculture and agri-food sectors.

To be eligible for Agriculture and agri-food occupations, candidates must

Have a minimum of six months of full-time, unbroken work experience (or equivalent of part-time work experience) in a single occupation as listed within the past three years.

This experience could be gained in Canada or outside the country.

Fulfill all obligations described in the instructions for a specific round.

Full eligibility details can be accessed in the instructions provided for each round of invitations.

All-Program Draws

The Express Entry program conducts various types of draws annually to invite candidates from the pool. These draws fall into three categories:

General Rounds of Invitations:

These draws invite candidates with the highest rankings in the Express Entry pool who are eligible for one of the three Express Entry programs, namely the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), or the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Program-Specific Rounds of Invitations:

Program-specific draws target candidates who are eligible for a particular Express Entry program. For instance, draws may be specifically for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), inviting only candidates eligible for nomination through a provincial program.

Category-Based Rounds of Invitations:

The Minister of Immigration establishes specific categories to address distinct economic goals across Canada. In 2023, category-based draws were introduced to prioritize certain occupations or sectors. Eligible candidates in the Express Entry pool matching the criteria for each category draw are invited to apply.
