Northwest Territories (NWT)

Northwest Territories (NWT)

The Northwest Territories (NWT) is located in northern Canada. It invites millions of immigrants’ applications, making it one of the most popular places in Canada among foreigners. The capital city of Yellowknife has the highest employment rate in the whole of Canada. Apart from offering excellent employment prospects, The Northwest Territories has the highest median household income. The place is known for its excellent hospitality. It is a mix of diverse cultural communities.

The NWT has vast natural resources spread across a relatively sparse population. Not surprisingly, it has the highest per capita GDP among all provinces and territories in Canada. The territory also boasts of having an impressive resource of diamonds, gold, and natural gas.

The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) includes a series of immigration pathways designed to provide the best opportunity for foreign nationals aiming to become Canadian permanent residents.

The NTNP aims to attract skilled, semi-skilled, and low-skilled workers through employer-driven immigration streams. It also has a business-driven equivalent aimed at entrepreneurs and business owners from all sectors. The goal is to build and establish new businesses in this region.

The province offers several immigration streams. They are divided into three categories:

  • Northwest Territories Express Entry
  • Northwest Territories Employer Driven
  • Northwest Territories Business Driven

Northwest Territories Express Entry

This stream provides skilled workers placed in the federal Express Entry pool the opportunity to participate in an accelerated permanent residence application. To qualify, candidates must have a valid job offer from an eligible local employer.

Northwest Territories Employer Driven

The Northwest Territories Employer Driven streams offer employment opportunities to foreign nationals with experience in diverse skill levels of occupations classified as National Occupational Classification (NOC) Skill Level 0, A, B, C, or D. They must have a full-time, permanent job offer from a qualified local employer. There are two streams of this program:

  • Critical Impact Worker
  • Skilled Worker

Northwest Territories Business Driven

The Northwest Territories Business Driven streams are designed for business owners and entrepreneurs who want to start a business in the province. The program accepts applications from all economic sectors. However, it gives priority to businesses that have the potential to create significant benefits to the Northwest Territories economy. It also favors those businesses that can create new products. These sections will be given priority when the applications are processed. The other streams in this program are

  • Entrepreneur
  • Self-Employed

The Application Process

To apply to the Northwest Territories PNP, you must follow these five steps:

  • Create an Express Entry Profile
  • Submit your profile on the relevant online portal
  • Make an application for nomination by choosing the Northwest Territories province
  • You will get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) if your application is in order
  • Submit the final application and wait for a response of acceptance

Processing Time

The time taken for processing applications is generally 12 weeks or thereabouts from the date of receiving all the completed documents with the required information. The time taken may also depend on the stream chosen. Some streams require more time to be accurately processed than others.
