Nova Scotia Reports Record Immigration Figures for 2022

The year 2022 is turning out to be an exceptional year for Nova Scotia immigration as it breaks all records for welcoming permanent residents in any year.

Immigration data from January to September 2022 from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada confirms 10,670 new permanent residents in the Atlantic province of Canada between January and September 2022. The nine months’ figures put Nova Scotia on a robust pedestal to welcome over 14,000 new permanent residents in 2022.

The year will bring 55.4 percent more immigrants to Nova Scotia than the previous year, which brought a record 9,155 permanent immigrants to Nova Scotia. The growth in provincial immigration is equally stunning as the Atlantic Canadian Province welcomed 4,127 more immigrants this year, registering a 181 percent growth over last year.

Category-wise immigration figures

The most outstanding immigration category showing massive growth of 406.7 percent is the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW). The number of immigrants leveraging FSW immigration in 2022 is 253, against just 50 in 2021.

There is over 89 percent growth in the Temporary Resident to Permanent Resident pathway welcoming 1,740 residents this year.

The Family Sponsorship programs facilitated 1,067 people to reunite with near ones this year, showing a 46.1 percent growth over the previous year.

Nova Scotia enabled 1,160 immigrants through refugee programs against 690 in 2021, with a 68.1 percent growth.

The province helped international students explore education opportunities by welcoming 12,853 students on study permits. It is 29.1 percent more than the previous year.

The impressive rise in the number of Temporary Foreign Workers 

Nova Scotia is on track to welcome 3,947 foreign nationals through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. Immigration is boosting the province’s economy with a surge in construction, food services, finance, accommodation, and healthcare sectors.
