A Guaranteed Investment Certificate confirms that the applicant holds the balance of CAD 10,000 in a Canadian bank account. The following banks allow the opening of a GIC account and also offer assured returns if you are investing the amount for a specified period:

  • Industrial and Commercial Bank of China

You must provide proofs of the following while applying for a Study Permit through the Student Direct Stream:

  • Receipt from a Designated Learning Institutions as proof of payment of fees for the first year
  • Bank receipt to confirm payment to the DLI 
  • Letter from the Designated Learning Institute proving the payment of fees
  • Guaranteed Investment Certificate
  • Police verification and medical examination proof 
  • Language proficiency test results with a minimum of 7 NCLC score for the French language or a score of 6 in IELTS test for English

Your study permit application must include necessary details of family members like your wife, common-law partner, or dependent children accompanying you. Amendment to the application will make the visa officer doubt your intentions of leaving Canada. The study permit has a date of expiry, and one must leave Canada when the period of validity of the study permit is coming to an end.
